Entries – now closed
The entries to the event have been going strong and we have now reached the maximum capacity of the event. That doesn’t mean there is no chance to get in any more. If you want to be put on the reserve list then please send your entry form (look here for download) and your payment through as before. We will not cash the cheque till we have found a place for you. If we are not able to find you a place in the 2008 event then we will obviously return your cheque.
Final payment – now due
As mentioned in the last email the final payment is now due. Please make sure you pay the remaining amount within the next week as only when your full payment has been received your entry is complete. If you have difficulties paying in time please let us know via email to this address. If you require ‘food only’ vouchers for your supporters please drop us an email so that we can calculate that in. There is no need to pay them in advance – you can do that when you sign on in Builth Wells.
You can either pay the final payment by cheque or by bank transfer – we don’t have credit card facilities. If you need the details please get in touch with us by sending an email.
Merida Bikes TransWales ’08 – the 7 day MTB stage challenge 16th – 23rd August 2008
For years mountain bikers have been looking for new challenges. From a temporary disinterest in cross country racing, an ever growing market of long distance endurance events has devolved. Primarily their attraction is that they demand more than just sheer brutal power for 1.5 hours, the key to their success are tactics and pacing and the riders’ right frame of mind.
Endurance events or mountain bike marathons have been around in the UK now for more than half a decade and have turned the scene and the industry around. What used to be a sport for just a few ‘race horses’ is now a regular event happening throughout the UK. This trend towards mass participation events for all levels of riders, enables people of varying abilities to overcome their barriers, achieving new personal goals and simply follow a healthy and active lifestyle. They also offer the chance to get away from it all, relax and have fun. With this in mind we have created the first ever ‘TransWales’ (2006) and are continuing running the TransUK in either Wales or Scotland.
For 2008 the TransUK events are going back to a new course in Wales for the 2nd issue of the TransWales - 7 day long Mountain Bike stage challenge. The event is a mixture of linking stages and special stages and can be tackled in either pairs or as solo riders Not just endurance but also tactics, the right equipment and an ability to pace yourself will be key to enjoying as well as to winning this event.
