About MTB Trans UK: The TransWales and TransScotland Races
mtbtransuk.co.uk documents the TransWales and TransScotland — the seven-day mountain-bike stage races held in Wales (2006–2010) and Scotland (2007). The races are no longer run. This site preserves what they were: the format that defined them, the routes they took, their year-by-year history and the surviving 2006 stage results, republished as readable tables.
What the site covers
The race record is organised in two sections. The TransWales pages cover the Welsh event in full: the rally-style concept of un-timed linking stages and timed special stages, the complete 2006 route with its published distances and climbing figures, how entry worked, what the race week itself looked like from registration to the finisher party, and a year-by-year history running from the first Merida TransWales in August 2006 to the final edition in 2010. The TransScotland pages do the same for the 2007 race: its format, the route as documented at the time around the 7stanes trail centres, and the full story of its single edition.
Where the race material comes from
The race pages are compiled from the event’s own published material of the period — stage breakdowns, concept and entry pages, news reports and timing sheets. Distances, dates, climbing figures, sponsor names and results are reproduced as they were published at the time; where the record is incomplete, the pages say so rather than fill the gaps.
The complete 2006 stage timing sheets survive as the original spreadsheets. They have been converted into accessible web tables — rider names, categories, stage times and overall times exactly as recorded during race week — and are published in full on the TransWales history page. No results have been reconstructed or estimated: what appears is what the timing crew published.
The gear guides
Alongside the historical record, the site publishes practical guides to riding packs — sizing, fit and carrying kit for everything from trail-centre laps to multi-day trips. The guides are brand-neutral: they explain categories and trade-offs rather than promote particular products, and they carry no advertising or sponsored placements. The flagship guide is the MTB backpack sizing guide, with focused companions on hydration packs, hip packs and commuting with a laptop, all collected in the packs & gear hub.
Contact and corrections
The historical record matters. Corrections to dates, results or route details are welcome from anyone who rode, marshalled or reported on the races — race numbers, finisher certificates, stage cards and photographs from the period are especially valuable, as is any documentation of the 2008 and 2009 editions, where the surviving record is thinner than for 2006 and 2010.
